The Ongpin Branch of CBS China Bank Savings [Zhong Xing Chu Xu Yin Hang], the retail banking arm of China Banking Corporation (China Bank) and member of the SMIC Group, opened for business on 18 July at the Ramada Manila, Quintin Paredes Street, Roman Ongpin Park, Binondo, Manila. CBS Ongpin Branch is a few steps from the renowned Binondo Church, one of Manila’s 16th-century architectural landmarks.
The blessing and inauguration of CBS Ongpin Branch will take place on 21 July at 9:00 in the morning in the presence of officials of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII).
For CBS, the opening of its newest branch commemorates the savings bank’s roots and the strength and stability of its respected parent China Bank, which was founded along Quintin Paredes Road (formerly No. 90 Calle Rosario) in 1920 by the country’s “Lumber King” Dee C. Chuan.
These photos from US archives show Calle Rosario and the Sun Studio-Fotografia building in the years between 1915 and 1926. The present CBS Ongpin Branch is in the ground floor of the building and has variously been occupied by a Chinese pharmacy, a photography studio and a commercial firm.
